Our Performance  

ING has been measuring, tracking and monitoring its performance in the ethical, social and environmental field since 1995, which helps us to continuously improve our track record. We have identified ten key performance indicators based on which we evaluate our progress towards our vision. These indicators relate directly to our four focus areas: Business, People, Environment and Community.

Other performance highlights

  • As of 2007, ING operates 100% carbon neutral globally.
  • In 2008, ING has reduced its emissions of carbon dioxide with 20% compared to 2007.
  • 63% of the electricity we purchase worldwide is derived from wind, solar and water power.
  • 57% of all ING business units implemented additional energy-efficiency measures in 2008.
  • Over 55% of our business units purchase paper that carries an FSC, a PEFC, or other sustainable sourcing certificate.
  • ING Green Finance (Dutch: ING Groenbank) manages EUR 925 million for ING customers for green projects.
  • In 2008, ING provided access to primary education to 111,409 children via the ING Chances for Children programme.
  • In November 2008, more than 12,000 employees participated in the first-ever global event for our global charity programme, ING Chances for Children.
  • In 2008, ING and its employees raised EUR 25.1 million for charitable donations.
  • 83% of our employees say they are proud to work for ING.
  • 11.8% Women in the International Management Council (IMC).
  • We have a total of EUR 2,295 million of sustainable assets under management.
  • Dow Jones Sustainability Index and FTSE4Good Index: Sustainable benchmarks and indices recognise ING’s efforts in the field of Corporate Responsibility by increasing our score compared to previous years.
  • On September 2008, ING Vysya had a total value of wholesale loans outstanding of EUR 42.8 million to 17 microfinance institutions.
  • In the first quarter of 2008, ING Private Banking in the Netherlands launched the ING Liric Duurzaam Top 50, an eight-year sustainable structured product with a guaranteed 100% refund of the initial investment.
  • ING has nine diversity employee networks around the world representing 10% of our workforce.
